I’ve been thinking a lot about this topic in last few days. The process of making vinyl seems to be so labor intensive and costly, it’s amazing that so much music was put on vinyl. Take a look in any used record store and ask yourself. Why exactly would anyone sink the money and sweat equity into some of this stuff. Yet, there it is….”Country Flavored Polkas”, “Honkytonk Classics” (which was actually a collection of classical pieces done with honkytonk piano), and every random Christmas compilation ever put together. But, I’m glad they did because it gives me something to do on a Saturday afternoon….
Kudos to the good people still putting out music on vinyl! (….even if it is today’s version of Herb Alpert’s “Whipped Cream & Other Delights”)

Forty-year-old record presses, installed by EMI in the 70s vinyl heyday, grind noisily away, oozing hydraulic oil on to the floor. Long pipes run the length of the factory floor, carrying steam to power the presses. It’s as if the digital age has never occurred.
